Series Statement: I began this body of work with the idea that I was interested in painting the new American landscape. I was inspired from ideas of urban and suburban planning, land use research and environmental concerns worked into an idea of how familiarity and nostalgia can color our experiences of the mundane. The ideas of painting these abundant alienating non-communities became an interesting point of departure in my exploration of the landscape of America. I chose to paint these in a beautiful manner, drawing from the ideas of the historical depictions of the American landscape with the intention to contrast the experience of historical America with the American landscape today.
